Association Meetings Up, Attendees Down

There were more international association meetings than ever last year, but on average the meetings had fewer participants, reports the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). The ICCA did not speculate on the reasons behind these two opposing trendlines in its annual report on international association meetings. Over the same time period, the number of meetings per year has doubled, from just under 6,000 to more than 12,000 in 2016.

ICCA, the International Congress and Convention Association, has released its annual rankings of top meeting cities and countries , and there have been quite of a few shake-ups among the top 10 meeting destinations. On the other hand, ICCA’s top 10 meeting countries did not change much.

Scottish cities account for 24% of all major association meetings in the UK

Scotland is bucking the trend with the number of major association events held in 2018 up 5% from 2017, despite the UK dropping two places in the latest ICCA Country and City Statistics report for total number of international association meetings. The report, released early this week, revealed that the number of major association meetings that took place in the UK dropped by 3% in 2018.
