Shining the spotlight on another lucky winner of our Skiddle Promoter Fund, may we introduce Daya and Chloe of Jungyals and Gays.

What began life as a university project in April of this year has now turned into a popular, up-and-coming event running out of renowned clubs in the English capital the likes of Venue M.O.T and Dalston Den.

Championing safe rave space for the female and queer community, those who have attended a Jungyals and Gays party will rush to tell you just how inclusive and friendly their events really are, whilst gushing about the DJ talent on offer providing some of the finest cuts in UKG, Speed Garage, Jungle, Breaks, Grime, Dubstep and everything in between.

We caught up with the pair to discover how the Skiddle Promoter Fund has helped to develop their ideas and events and what the future holds for their brand.

What have the funds enabled you to do that you might not have been able to do otherwise?

“The funds have enabled us to provide an even safer space for our customers. We’ve always made an effort to protect our attendees as much as we can but with the funding from Skiddle, we’ve been able to go even further. We’ve put more money into promoting our events and our brands ethos, printing posters which outline our code of conduct at our events to ensure a safe environment for all.

“From the early beginnings of Jungyals and Gays, we’ve understood the importance of taking care of not only our guests, but our artists and our team, too. We want to make sure everyone involved feels valued. We brought our brand to life back when we were studying at university with not a lot of funding to support it, so we had to get creative with ways to say thank you. The feedback we get from our artists and attendees is something we really pride ourselves on and again, these funds will only help to bolster our reputation further.

“Working to tight budgets, we’ve been able to supply goody bags, travel, drinks tokens, and tickets for the artists and their friends in the past. With the Promoter Fund from Skiddle, we we’re able able to pay all those involved with our event back in October – Ghouls. Girls. Garage – which has been one of our main goals since starting.

“The funds have also helped with little things, such as buying a card machine, and enabled us to be a bit more elaborate with our event decor.”

How important is it, as an upcoming promoter, to receive the sort of support and financial backing that you’ve received from Skiddle?

“Throughout the development of our brand, we’ve always had these grand ideas for our events but never been able to bring them to fruition due to the lack of budget. The Skiddle Promoter Fund provided an accessible opportunity for us. It’s allowed us, as promoters with little-to-no expendable finances, to bring our outlandish ideas and dreams to life, and establish our name in the clubbing world.

“It has also been hugely important for us to gain support from an established brand like Skiddle. As a pretty new, upcoming event brand, it’s promising to hear people have faith in you enough to support you with a bursary as such.”

What are the perks or advantages of using the Skiddle platform when promoting and selling tickets to events?

“We had never used Skiddle before but now it’s a platform we’ll consistently be using for all of our future events. We found the platform very user-friendly. Without any assistance, we’ve been able to work out how to use Skiddle’s features and tools, changing ticket prices, uploading event flyers and acquiring customer data from reports.

“The reach our events received on the website also really impressed us, as did the daily ticket update via email, which allowed us to keep an up-to-date register of ticket sales. The transfer time for our ticket funds was also super fast, meaning we could pay everyone as quickly as possible.”

What does the future hold for Jungyals and Gays?

“Our next event is in the calendar and will take place towards the end of January 2024! Preparations are well under way.

“We’ve taken a 3-month hiatus to begin work developing Jungyals and Gays into something more than just a music event, too. We are building an extension for creatives who might be interested in utilising our brand outside of events.

“As a brand, Jungyals and Gays places a huge emphasis on providing an educational safe space. To that aim, we are currently working on creating a website that will include guest blogs and articles covering a variety of current topics, including spiking, hate crime and sexual harassment. It will also be used to spotlight upcoming talents and their work, whether that be music or art.

“The push online does not mean we are taking a step back from events, however. Our event started as a rave and that’s what we are passionate about. We’ve got a lot in store for our crowds next year, bringing lots of upcoming names to your attention. We want to push our brand even further in 2024.”

Why should other promoters apply for future Skiddle Promoter Fund initiatives?

“It’s a good opportunity to further your brand without financial risk. If you are passionate about your event or brand, bringing your ideas to life and turning a hobby into a career, then applying for something like this is going to help you out enormously.

“It’s no secret that the grassroots music scene is struggling right now. The need for a new wave of promoters to step up and bring fresh concepts to the plate has never been more urgent. Working with Skiddle has been something we’ve enjoyed and has been easy from start to finish. We highly recommend applying for the fund.”
