AIF launch the First Festival Initiative

The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) have launched a brand-new campaign and fund which aims to give more people aged 18+ the chance to attend music festivals in the UK. 

For many people, turning 18 marks the moment when they make their first steps into club culture, attending festivals with their friends and discovering new music. The ‘First Festival Campaign’ is built on the idea that people should be able to have easy access to these experiences. 

It comes off the back of the pandemic, which saw most people who turned 18 at the time denied the chance to experience such a pivotal moment in life. 

With many festival tickets from 2019 rolling over to 2022, it meant that young people again missed out on the chance to go to their first event of this type. Add in the cost of living crisis, and we’re facing a situation where young people are being priced out of events. 

The campaign means anyone who was or is aged 18 between September 1st 2019 to August 31st 2023 can register interest in one of the AIF’s participating festivals on the First Festival website. 

Individuals, organisations and companies can make donations to the campaign, while tickets will be released once funding targets are met. Eligible 18-year-olds will be able to buy a ticket for their chosen festival for as little as £18.
