We’re gearing up for festival season once again. That’s come around quick, hasn’t it?

As a festival promoter, you’ve probably already launched your event, unveiled your lineup, and are now focused on selling tickets with determination. Likewise, if, for example, you’re planning a one-day spectacular for food lovers or a white-knuckle attraction to run over the sunnier months, all the focus is on bringing in those all-important sales.

However, this period can be tricky. Often, people flock to buy tickets at the launch of an event. They might be drawn in by a promotional video, signing up for presale to secure their tickets early. A more recent trend that’s also been observed shows eventgoers holding off on buying their tickets until the final week before an event occurs, with customers opting instead to keep their hard-earned funds in their pockets.

Cheaper Bank holiday experiences, birthdays and other life events can also take precedence over buying tickets with a pricier tag too, especially when purse strings are tight. So, the question is, how can event organisers attract sales of higher-priced tickets earlier in the sales cycle?

Luckily, PayPal Pay In 3 can help you here. We’re going to take a look at the payment method – available on Skiddle – and show you how it can help drive ticket sales earlier in the sales cycle. Keep scrolling to discover more.

What are people’s opinions on buying tickets?

If one thing is for sure at the moment, it’s that everything feels expensive.

We’re all feeling the pinch. Utility bills, rail travel, rent and recreational costs are all going up, with festival tickets included in that list. You only have to read the news or talk to your friends to get an idea of how the cost of living crisis is affecting people.

The statistics reflect that, too.

In November 2023, LIVE and Opinium surveyed 2000 people about live music and events. 27% of people felt that event tickets are too expensive, while 20% of people said that everything feels expensive at the moment.

So, it’s clear that budgeting is on people’s minds. That’s where PayPal Pay In 3 can help.

How does PayPal Pay In 3 work?

We offer PayPal Pay In 3 on orders from £30 to £2,000. For a festival or large event, it’s perfect. Customers can split the cost of their ticket into three equal payments: 1/3rd now, 1/3rd in a month and 1/3rd in two months.

You’ll receive the full value of the ticket, too. With Pay In 3, the customer has an agreement with PayPal to pay the remaining cost of the ticket, meaning you don’t have to wait until the instalments are paid to receive your money. Any payment issues will be resolved between the customer and PayPal, plus, it can be used right up until the day of the event.

That sounds great, but how does that benefit me?

Earlier in the article, we mentioned how the cost of living crisis affects everyone. However, people still want to go to events. Having Pay In 3 enabled for your festival gives potential attendees the ability to look at their budget, look at the cost of a ticket and factor it into their monthly spending plan.

With that in mind, they’ll be able to buy without the drawbacks of spending a large sum of money in a short space of time. This peace of mind can lead to more sales for you, as customers can ensure they have the money for each monthly instalment.

Marketing PayPal to your customers

Having a split payment option can help your customers massively, so it’s crucial to shout about it on your socials.

You’ll want to tap into the budgeting element here. Communicate to your audience that there is an affordable way to experience a weekend of live music and culture by using PayPal Pay In 3.

One way of doing this could be by creating an Instagram post that details the benefits of using Pay In 3 against the regular payment method. Tell potential attendees the cost of your ticket when split into three payments and emphasise the fact that it helps them to budget more easily.

Festival season comes with a lot of competition. A split payment option might be the difference between someone choosing your event over another.

We’ll be sharing more ideas on how to creatively promote the use of Paypal Pay in 3 on the Promotion Centre Blog over the coming weeks.

What else do I need to know?

Chargebacks can still occur when using Pay in 3.

PayPal’s dispute resolution service can lead to a small increase in disputed transactions. A customer can open a dispute any time after PayPal has received a payment. There is a twenty-day window to settle the dispute.

So, please ensure that you provide customers with quick responses when they are unhappy. If the customer is unsatisfied with the solution provided, they may make a claim. Please note that a customer can’t escalate a dispute to a claim until seven days after PayPal has received payment.

A £12.50 + VAT admin fee will be applied to your account when a dispute or claim is raised.

Rest assured, as always, that as part of the Skiddle service and as your ticket platform, we’ll endeavour to defend disputes and claims with commitment.
