What Makes a Great New Year’s Eve Event: Insights from Skiddle Customers

We’re always looking for more ways to understand what eventgoers want.

It means we can pass that knowledge on to promoters and help them secure the ticket sales their events deserve.

So, in the run-up to New Year’s Eve last year, we conducted a poll on the Skiddle Instagram page, asking what makes a great New Year’s event.

Customer knowledge is invaluable as an event promoter, as it helps you shape the improvements of your event and ensure you’re giving them what they want.

Of course, you don’t want to stray too far from your original vision; that’s why people attend the event in the first place. But it’s crucial to show that you’re listening to the people who make your event what it is.

Why not run a similar poll on your socials? It’ll help you gauge interest in the things your attendees love about your event.

In the meantime, scroll down to find out the results of our poll and our thoughts on why we think people voted the way they did.

Line-up quality

Coming in at the top with 39% of the votes was line-up quality.

This makes sense. People attend club nights to experience their favourite genres and see their favourite DJs. Some events cost a lot of money, so attendees are less likely to spend hard-earned cash on a line-up where they aren’t familiar with the performers on the bill.

Skiddle staff can help with your line-up. They’ve got bags of experience putting on their own events and attend clubs regularly, so they know who’s got a buzz. Plus, they know what sells and what doesn’t. If you’re looking for acts that can take your event to the next level, give them a call or email and have a chat.

Event genre

Next up is event genre with 36% of the votes.

You’ll often hear one style of music at a club night, with DJs playing the various subgenres of the sound in their sets.

But why do we think event genre came second?

People like more than one genre of music, so an event that solely plays drum & bass might not be a dealbreaker when buying tickets.

With the advent of the streaming era, it’s easier than ever to be a fan of multiple genres, and we’re seeing more and more hybrid styles based around tempo over strict genre trappings.

Take the tag ‘140’, for example. This can refer to grime, garage, dubstep and bassline. So, clubgoers may prioritise a headliner they love from that scene and not be too picky over the sound of the warm-up DJs if they know it’ll include the genres we mentioned earlier.

Production quality

Finally, production quality came in at last place with 25% of the votes.

Production quality includes stage design, light show production and sound systems.

This vote comes down to taste. New Year’s Eve events are varied, with some offering a full-blown, immersive club experience with lights and dancers. On the other hand, you’ve got your classic, low-ceiling, small-capacity club night where the focus is on the music and the visuals are strictly no-frills.

Some event attendees simply aren’t bothered by a dazzling light show, they just want a room where they can dance alongside like-minded people.
