As we approach the end of April (Can you believe we’re already a third of the way through 2024?), award season in the event industry is in full swing. Among the black-tie affairs gracing our calendars, none shines brighter than the esteemed Northern Music Awards, hosted by Britain’s leading music charity, Nordoff & Robbins.

This prestigious event, held at Manchester’s iconic Albert Hall music venue, is a celebration of the best of music in the North. With an impressive array of award categories ranging from “Artist of the Year” to “Band of the Year” and “Breakthrough Act of the Year,” the ceremony is a showcase of talent and dedication.

However, the Northern Music Awards are about much more than glitz and glamour. They serve a noble purpose beyond recognition. The event acts as a vital fundraiser for Nordoff & Robbins, enabling the charity to deliver specialist music therapy courses to communities across Northern England. These courses are designed to foster connections, combat social isolation, and promote mental health and well-being throughout the region.

Skiddle is immensely proud to have played a part in this year’s awards by sponsoring two prestigious accolades: “Inspirational Venue of the Year Under 500 Capacity” and “Inspirational Venue of the Year Under 2,000 Capacity“. These awards recognise the vital role that venues play in nurturing the live music scene and supporting emerging artists.

At this year’s ceremony, numerous deserving winners took the stage to claim their well-deserved honours. Among them, the winners of the Skiddle-sponsored awards, Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club and Manchester’s Band On The Wall were both recognised for their outstanding contributions to the music community. It was a moment of pride for Skiddle as one of our founding Directors, Richard Dyer, had the privilege of congratulating the winners and presenting them with their accolades.

The Northern Music Awards not only celebrate excellence in music but also embody the spirit of community and philanthropy. As we look back on this unforgettable evening, we are reminded of the transformative power of music and the importance of supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Here’s to another year of incredible music and inspiring achievements in the North.
