An introduction to 42’s

The building on 42nd Street has had a storied history with many names and owners, but it became known to the students, clubgoers, party animals and alternative music lovers of Manchester as 42’s at the turn of the millennium.

The club’s event schedule sees events like Blowout, Amplified, Skint, Dirty Dancefloors and Urban Legends run from Tuesday to Saturday.

There’s one focus here: drinks deals and alternative music. This ethos is how 42’s has been able to sustain its reputation as one of Manchester’s premier student venues for over 20 years.

Damien Reid, promoter at the club, first became involved with nightlife by working alongside his dad, a DJ at fellow Manchester spot Fith Avenue.

From there, he made the move to 42nd Street, falling in love with the club after being introduced by a friend who worked at the venue.

The ethos at 42’s is inclusivity. They want to create a nightclub where everyone is welcome, with a love for music and having a great time at the forefront of Damien’s mind.

With the club being such a successful partner for Skiddle, it made sense to highlight them in our first case study. scrolll down to find out how we’ve collaborated.

How we’ve helped 42’s

As we mentioned earlier, 42’s have long been successful in the city of Manchester. However, all club promoters face struggles along the way. For Damien, the challenge has been to stand out in a crowded space when planning, organising and promoting multiple events throughout the week.

So, the solution was simple: find an all-in-one ticket service that would help the club attract new and existing when promoting events all year round.

We’ve been able to help 42’s thanks to our free marketing tools, the intuitive Promotion Centre and our dedicated account managers.

First, let’s look at E-Flyers. Speaking to Skiddle, Damien told us that “Mail Shots and E-Flyers can tap into new and existing customers as well as raise general awareness of events we have coming up.”

That’s reflected in the numbers, too. Clarice, 42’s account manager, tells us that The E-Flyers, which advertise the club’s regular and one-off nights, are “getting more and more traction each time we send them, and the revenue has gone up by 900% since I took over as AM on the account”.

Clarice also tells us that “we’ve set up a brand page for 42s which customers can follow. Customers can see all of the listings in one place and will be included in our new brand alerts feature so that any time 42s add new listings, their customers will get a notification through the app.”

Elsewhere, Damien remarks that the Promotion Centre “is extremely user friendly, the layout and sub-menus make it stress-free and easy to understand.”

He’s found that Skiddle features like Re:Sell and Duplicate Events have helped 42’s to combat no-shows and make sure their events are sold out. The latter helps the club to be more efficient when organising events, with Damien telling us that the feature “saves us hours and hours a month.”

The benefits of the partnership

So, taking all this into account, what positives have Damien and 42’s seen from working with Skiddle?

The E-Flyers and Brand Alerts have contributed to successful events, with a lot of these attendees being new people. Damien tells us that he’s “definitely noticed that the majority of our Skiddle customers tend to be new customers. The Re:Sell feature has been really useful for reselling any returned tickets for sold-out events.”

Additionally, 42’s interaction with Clarice has been greater than the other ticket platforms the club uses to sell tickets. Damien says “I’d say we have more interaction than we do with other platforms.”

The features, interaction and hard work from Skiddle contribute to a positive working relationship, helping 42’s to continue to be successful with the students of Manchester.
