Our approach to mental health and well-being has shifted massively over the past few years.

At one time, the general consensus would be: get on with it. But now, society is much more sensitive to the mental health needs of society, and with that comes initiatives to spread the word further.

Enter Getahead Festival. It’s London’s only mental health and wellbeing festival, set up in 2018 by Jenni Cochrane, it’s returning for a brand new edition on the 9th February.

So, we’ve put together a guide on what to expect on the day. Discover the talks and events we think are unmissable for event industry professionals.

Advice on financial wellbeing

Money management can be tricky. It’s a skill we aren’t really taught, expected to figure it out ourselves once we reach adulthood.

It’s the cause of a lot of stress, too. According to The Financial Capability Strategy for the UK, 32% of adults in the UK don’t feel confident in managing their money.

This can spill over into other parts of our lives, causing worry and stress, ultimately stopping us from living fully. So, why not attend the Financial Wellbeing talk at Getahead? It’s delivered by Cavendish Ware, a wealth management company that gives advice on money-related subjects.

The talk takes place in the Rae’s festival area from 9 am to 11 am.

A Skiddle presence

If you’ve had your eyes on our socials over the past week, you’ll have spotted that we’ll have a presence at this year’s edition of Getahead Festival.

We’re absolutely delighted. The wellbeing of those in the events industry is a subject close to our heart, and from 2:15 pm to 3 pm, you’ll be able to see our very own Andrew Hill chat with Halina Wielogorska, Grace Flynn, Ronnie Traynor and Brandon Block on a panel titled ‘Staying Sane In The Game’.

You’ll be able to discover the tools needed to keep your mind right in a fast-paced environment, learning from those who’ve been through it and are eager to pass on the things they’ve used to help them.

Tips on mindful drinking

The events industry is synonymous with letting your hair down. After all, who doesn’t want to go out, have a few drinks and see their favourite bands, DJs or artists?

However, it’s crucial to exercise moderation. With the number of networking events, launch parties and exclusive gigs in the industry, it can be easy to drink even when you don’t particularly feel like it.

Mindfulness Drinking has taken off in the past few years, helping people to assess their relationship with alcohol and adjust it in a non-judgmental way.

If it’s something you’ve been interested in, Getahead’s Mindful Drinking Workshop is for you. It’s hosted by Dan Shell, a funk and soul DJ and brand ambassador for non-alcoholic drinks company Lyre’s Spirit Co.

Workshops for the mind and body

Good things follow when the mind and body are aligned.

As well as the wide-ranging mental health-focused workshops and panels, Getahead Festival also have a full lineup of fitness-based things for you to get involved in.

At the ‘Fitness Lab’, you’ll be able to attend House of Voga, which will mix vogue and ballroom music with yoga; Fight Klub, a drum & bass workout; Slow Down To Get Strong, a strength-based class, and The B Frequency, a sound frequency workshop.

It’s a fun way to get the blood flowing. Plus, who knows? You might pick up a new interest along the way.

Lots of laughs

It’s said that a day without laughter is a day wasted.

We’d probably agree. The feeling of belly laughing with your friends is something that can’t be matched, helping us to feel energised in our day-to-day lives.

Alongside the mental and physical health-focused activities, Getahead will be hosting a lunchtime Comedy Club from 1:15 pm to 2 pm, giving you the chance to get your laughs in over some great food.
