Giving more control and independence to organisers everywhere

Today we’re thrilled to welcome ticketscript, one of Europe’s largest self-service ticketing providers, to Eventbrite. Why exactly are we jumping with excitement? Because ticketscript’s leadership shares our commitment to empowering organisers with technology that makes your life easier and helps you sell more tickets. And they’ve delivered repeatedly on that commitment over the last ten years.

To learn about what motivates our new colleagues to keep wowing event organisers across Europe, we sat down with ticketscript’s Co-Founder and CEO, Frans Jonker.

ticketscript got its start in 2006 when Jonker and his co-founder, Ruben Meiland, identified a need in an ecosystem they were completely immersed in: Amsterdam’s electronic music scene. Meiland had founded Beatfreax, an electronic music website where fans followed artists and their shows.  While managing the site, he and Jonker noticed that promoters were spending a lot more time creating a website experience to attract an audience and convert them into ticket buyers.

“We believe it’s essential for organisers to be in control of their ticket sales, and we wanted to put them in the driver’s seat.”

But, as Jonker explains, “there was still one part of the experience where promoters didn’t have any choice: how to sell tickets. We believe it’s essential for organisers to be in control of their ticket sales, and we wanted to put them in the driver’s seat.”

This deep desire to empower organisers was central from the start. “Control was something you could see immediately in our platform,” says Jonker. “We introduced e-ticketing and ‘Ticket Shops’ that gave organisers control over when and where they could sell their tickets, and real-time reporting that gave them control over their own customer data. Those things were unheard of at the time.”

ticketscript has since sold tickets to more than a hundred thousand events across Europe, from shows at Amnesia Ibiza to Love Family Park in Germany to the Amsterdam Dance Festival. But they haven’t lost their laser focus on giving their customers more independence and flexibility, or their passion for music.  “We hired people who loved music, events, and technology,” says Jonker. “From day one, they were committed to making our mission a success.  We’re thrilled that many early employees are still with the company.”

“Joining Eventbrite will help us innovate faster than ever before, and empower customers with more control and independence.”

What’s most exciting for Jonker and event organisers everywhere is what’s to come. “When we combine ticketscript’s deep local knowledge of European event organisers—particularly in music—with Eventbrite’s technical capabilities and marketplace ecosystem, we’re building a really bright future,” says Jonker.  “Joining Eventbrite will help us innovate faster than ever before, and empower customers with more control and independence.  It’s everything we started ticketscript to do—and now we can accelerate it.”
