Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is Malaysia’s First SafeBE Certified Venue
9/20/2021
KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is Malaysia’s first venue to be granted the Safe Business Events (SafeBE) certification, a hygiene and safety label, by Bureau Veritas.

The SafeBE certification programme, initiated and supported by the Business Events Council Malaysia (BECM), gained collaboration from Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (MACEOS) and the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) to drive the venue certification process to create an end-to-end safe and secure event journey for event organisers and participants alike. It recognises a venue’s implementation of the Government endorsed Business Events Standard Operating Procedures (BE SOPs) and the team’s operational excellence in event management, food and hospitality service standards in the new norm.

Alan Pryor, the Centre’s General Manager shared, “We are proud to be the first venue in Malaysia to have obtained the SafeBE certification. Reflecting our position as Malaysia’s premier venue, this accreditation is another step to build confidence and testify that our stringent and rigorous SOPs are designed to deliver a safe, secure, controlled and well-regulated environment for business events.”

To receive the accreditation, the Centre was assessed on its processes, facilities and people. This was based on correct implementation of quality standards, equipment, tools, team knowledge, training and expertise, in order to ensure the venue’s compliance with the assessors’ stringent criteria and ability to operate safely in the new norm.

“We want every step of the event organiser and visitor journey to instil trust and assurance in our venue, team and the destination. This is part of our broader strategy for business recovery and continuity, as well as our mission to increase public and business confidence in the international standards of venue operations in Malaysia. We highly recommend that other venues undertake this certification programme to elevate the country’s attractive value proposition and profile as a safe destination for business events,” Pryor concluded.

Last year, the Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH) and Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), initiated a similar safety certification standard, the “Clean and Safe Malaysia” and “Travel Safe Malaysia: Hygiene Excellence and Safety Label” respectively. With the business events industry also embarking on this journey, Malaysia’s tourism and hospitality industry will be well-positioned to welcome back event delegates and visitors safely.
