Minnesota's Bid to Host World's Expo in 2027 Reaches Historic Milestone
10/21/2022
MINNEAPOLIS – The Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) announced today that Minnesota USA Expo 2027’s bid to host a Specialized Expo is advancing to the next step in the process. This is the first time the BIE Executive Committee has deemed a bid on behalf of the United States viable since 1980. This comes a week after BIE Delegates visited both Minnesota and Washington, D.C., for an Enquiry Mission. The purpose of the Enquiry Mission was for the BIE to assess the feasibility and viability of hosting an Expo in the U.S. During the BIE’s visit, they met with local, state and federal officials, along with members of the community, and visited the future sites in Bloomington, Minnesota, where the Expo would be held. “We were honored to meet the BIE Enquiry Mission delegates last week and make our case for our theme of "Healthy People, Healthy Planet: Wellness and Well-being for all," said Robert Clark, Co-Chair of the Minnesota USA Expo board and former Commissioner General to Expo 2020 in Dubai. “With the strong support of President Biden, Governor Walz, Minnesota’s Congressional delegation and other top local officials. We look forward to continuing a successful bid process and bringing Expo 2027 to the great state of Minnesota.” “This is a big day for everyone who has put in tireless hours to help us make a strong case for the United States to host the Specialized Expo in 2027,” said John Stanoch, President and CEO of Minnesota USA Expo 2027. “We are honored that last week’s Enquiry Mission was well-perceived by the BIE delegation, and they recognize that we are ready to bring the world to Minnesota. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are now one step closer to making this a reality in 2027.” The next step in the bid process is another presentation at the BIE’s General Assembly in Paris in late November. The U.S. is competing against four other countries: Spain, Thailand, Serbia and Argentina. The BIE will vote in June 2023 on where the Specialized Expo in 2027 will be held. If the U.S. bid is successful, it would be the first time a World’s Expo would be held in the country since New Orleans hosted the event in 1984. Minnesota USA Expo 2027’s theme, “Healthy People, Healthy Planet,” would mark the first-ever Expo focused on the health and wellness issues people are facing across the world. The Expo would run for three 2131 Lindau Lane, Suite 420 | Bloomington, Minnesota 55425 USA | www.Expo2027.us months over the summer of 2027, located on undeveloped land near Mall of America in Bloomington. A study conducted by Rockport Analytics predicts the Expo could have an economic impact of $2.5 billion dollars. It’s also expected to attract about 14.3 million people from around the world over the three months. Just over a million of those visitors are expected to come from outside the U.S. Here is a link to the BIE’s announcement. About Minnesota USA Expo 2027 Minnesota Expo USA 2027 seeks to secure a Specialized Expo to be held in Bloomington, Minnesota, during the summer of 2027. An Expo is most often referred to as a World’s Fair in the United States. Having been selected as the official bid of the United States in June 2021, the international campaign is a joint effort between the bid committee and the United States federal government. The United States faces competition from Argentina, Serbia, Spain and Thailand, and the selection by the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) will occur in June 2023. The last World’s Fair held in the United States was hosted by New Orleans in 1984. Contact: questions@exhibitormagazine.com |
