Duke Energy Convention Center to Amplify Hospitality Efforts on Sustainability
4/22/2022
Cincinnati, OH – The Duke Energy Convention Center (DECC) in Cincinnati, Ohio is committed to sustainability year round. Our latest partnership however, is closing the food gap of 14 million meals in Cincinnati. Last Mile Food Rescue is a startup tech company that launched during the pandemic. Through their research and data, they realized over 270,000 people in our 20-county region experience food insecurity. Yet more than 40% of good food goes to waste. Through a partnership created with OVG360 and the Duke Energy Convention Center in August of 2021, the DECC has donated over 5,000 pounds of leftover food to the community. Stats:
“The hospitality community hosts many conventions, meetings, trade shows, and banquets, but we aren’t structured to cater outside of our venues. So we needed to remove this barrier to feed our community. This donation will help Last Mile Food Rescue establish a sustainable tray exchange program to increase the donations coming from the Duke Energy Convention Center and our hospitality partners in downtown Cincinnati,” says OVG360’s Ric Booth, General Manager at the DECC. “One person can make a difference, but all of us collectively can be change-makers in our community.” Fernandez spoke to what this means to Last Mile Food Rescue. “It means the world to us. The Duke Energy Convention Center is a valued partner because it’s a visible symbol in our community. And to have their terrific food, which normally would go to waste, go to great places like Shelterhouse and other established charities in town, means that Cincinnati is more vibrant for all.” About the Duke Energy Convention Center: The Duke Energy Convention Center is managed by Spectra and located in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, within blocks of top-rated restaurants, bars, pro-sports venues and attractions. The Center boasts innovative design features that welcome creative event plans and versatile spaces to accommodate both large and small groups. The 40,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom is the largest and most spectacular in the Midwest. In addition, the Center offers 200,000 sq. ft. of exhibit spaces and 30 deluxe meeting rooms. DECC offers free Wi-Fi areas, an in-house AV company, telecommunications provider and show-stopping catering cuisine.
