Finalist in both the ICCA Best Marketing Awards and ABPCO Excellence Awards

ICC Wales has been shortlisted for two prestigious meetings industry awards. The South Wales venue has been announced as a finalist for the ICCA Best Marketing Award and in the Best Legacy category at the ABPCO Excellence Awards for its work educating the global events sector on the upcoming Protect Duty (Martyn’s Law).

Since the beginning of 2022, ICC Wales has worked tirelessly on creating educational resources including its Protect Duty report, delivering informative sessions at industry trade shows and launching its Protect Duty Events Industry Group, which held its first meeting on 17th October 2022.

Speaking on the announcements, Ian Edwards, CEO of ICC Wales said: “The team has done a tremendous job of educating the global industry on Protect Duty and its potential impact, and to be recognised by both ICCA and ABPCO is testament to their hard work and dedication.

“I am proud of the way in which ICC Wales has taken the lead on this important issue and of everything that the team has achieved since the beginning of the year. We will keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming awards ceremonies, but the biggest reward comes from raising the profile of Protect Duty and its life-saving objectives.”

The Protect Duty is a direct result of campaigning by Figen Murray OBE. Figen, who wrote the foreword to the ICC Wales report, is the mother of Martyn Hett who was killed in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017. The new legislation will formalise the responsibilities and actions that publicly accessible locations must take to mitigate the risk of a terrorist attack.

The ICCA Best Marketing Award, which began in 1997, recognises the excellence and outstanding achievements of organisations in their effort to mark their destination or product. The winner of the award will be announced on 9th November 2022 in Kraków, Poland as part of the ICCA World Congress programme (6th – 9th November 2022).

The ABPCO Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate industry best practice in association and not-for-profit conferences and events. The winners of the awards will be announced on 9th December 2022 in Birmingham, UK as part of the ABPCO Chairmen’s Lunch and Excellence Awards (8th – 9th December 2022).
