Though The Albany Club has been around since 1882, most newly engaged couples are unlikely to be as familiar with this charming and historic venue as they should be. While the space is an exclusive, members-only club, engaged couples and others wishing to host a memorable celebration are in luck as the club does entertain non-member weddings and events. I felt very fortunate to have been invited to experience the rich history, the incredible cuisine, and the unparalleled hospitality of the club at their Annual Wedding Open House after a three-year hiatus (we all know the reason for this). A big thanks to Toronto Wedding Studios for all the fantastic photos.

Albany Club is such a hidden gem of an event space, nestled in a row of historical buildings on King St East. As I approach the building on a sunny and unseasonably warm winter afternoon I am immediately drawn to the gorgeous limestone façade, with its elaborate carved elements and those large wooden double doors.

Upon entering the venue, I discover that the inside of the club is just as beautiful as the outside. It’s such a treat to see such authentically historic architecture and design in a downtown Toronto event space. Immediately, I am greeted with a shaken raspberry cocktail freshly made in front of my eyes – yum! A fantastic way to make guests feel immediately welcomed. Walk with Anime is greeting all the guests and spinning some fine tunes to get everyone in a lively mood.

The space feels very intimate and inviting, suitable for smaller groups, but to my surprise, the main floor ballroom can host up to 150 seated guests. The stained glass windows in the room and dark wooden details make for a distinct and impressive backdrop for those looking for a venue with a unique twist. The room is decorated by the team at Designs by Dina in black and white linens, adding an edge to the otherwise classical design setting. Lush foliage, ivory and blush florals, twinkling lights, and flickering candles are the perfect added accents.

I follow the sound of a harp played by Denise Fung, Harpist and I find myself on the third floor (the second floor is reserved for club members only). This is where the bridal suite, overnight guest suites, and several small dining rooms are located. It’s so lovely to know that everything is in one location and available to the couple getting married. After touring the suites, I make my way to the final destination of the open house – the Sir John A. MacDonald room on the fourth floor.  This is where the action was – with plenty of talented vendors for couples to meet, while Evolved Entertainment kept the energy moving.

I had heard in advance about how great the food was at this venue. Wow, what can I say? Starting out with the delicious – and very generous – passed hors d’oeuvres, I knew I was in for a treat! From an impressive cheese and charcuterie board, to live risotto station, carving station, taco station, sushi station, shrimp, poached salmon display, and oysters, to the French pastries and desserts, everything is absolute perfection! I heard many guests complimenting the food but I had no idea just how much of it was awaiting and how delicious it would all be! I can honestly say that any couple wanting to host their wedding or celebration here will have no shortage of food delight with Albany Club‘s fine cuisine.

As the evening drew to an end, it was obvious that the guests in attendance absolutely loved the space. Needless to say, after a three year hiatus, the event was a huge success. A big thanks to the venue for inviting us down.
