SGMP to Hold 2023 National Education Conference in Bloomington, Minnesota

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) announced its 41st National Education Conference (NEC) will take place in Bloomington, Minnesota, adjacent to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The event will be held June 6-8, 2023, at the Radisson Blu Mall of America. "The SGMP National Board is delighted to bring the National Education Conference to Bloomington," said SGMP President Annette Wallace, CMP, CGMP. "We are pleased to be working with the Bloomington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Radisson Blu Mall of America and our SGMP Northern Lights Chapter to welcome government meeting and event professionals from around the country to learn, connect and grow." A call for speakers will go out in July 2022, and registration will open in the fall. All SGMP educational content at the conference will address topics within nine core competencies which are integral to the government meeting professional. These core competencies include the following: education and programming, ethics, facilities and services, financial and contract management, logistics, personal and professional development, protocol, technology, and federal, state and local travel. Attendees will earn at least nine education contact hours that include multiple blocks of specific training toward their Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) designation. The Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) three-day course will be offered in person as a pre-conference program starting June 3, 2023. The CGMP course, which concludes with a written examination, teaches recognized government meeting practices and includes thorough instruction in ethics, federal budget and appropriations, acquisition and contracting, travel rules and regulations, RFPs, risk management and protocol. Once earned, the CGMP is the highest designation available that is specifically for government meeting professionals. The CGMP is a designation frequently required by government agencies and businesses that contract with the government. The 2023 NEC will bring together government meeting professionals from all over the country for industry-leading educational sessions and networking. Meeting and event professionals who plan or provide services for local, state or federal government meetings are invited to the conference.
