Newly independent West End London hotel, The Dilly, has just been presented with the international Green Key award – the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.

Since the hotel’s launch in May 2021, the team behind The Dilly have been making sustainable choices throughout every department of the hotel and just over a year later following a thorough audit, has been certified by Green Key to meet the criteria for a sustainable tourism business. Mission : Net Zero, a sustainability consultant, worked alongside the Dilly’s Green team on a number of projects to help them achieve this prestigious eco-certification.

‘We Are London’ is The Dilly’s ethos, sourcing produce locally wherever possible, and thereby supporting local businesses. The Dilly is also fighting against food waste throughout its food and beverage outlets, including stocking London based Toast Ale, a non-profit company producing beer from leftover bread.

The hotel is working with several local organisations, including nearby FEAST for St James’s Church, whereby The Dilly staff support in the local soup kitchen and rally together in warm clothing collections for those without a home.

Team members at The Dilly are given green focussed in-house and external training opportunities, including training to also offer sustainable choices to guests, such as hiring of The Dilly bicycles.

James Olivier, General Manager at The Dilly commented:

“We are committed to being part of the solution in the fight against climate change. We are working to reduce our environmental impact through our energy efficiency, waste management and materials selection. I am delighted the hard work of our team has paid off and we are now certified, although our work doesn’t stop here, and we look forward to working with Green Key to continue to evolve our sustainability practices.”
