Designing participant journeys with Carina Bauer, IMEX Exhibitions

The fourth lecture in the University of Westminster’s autumn Event Design Lecture Series takes place on Monday 4th November. The lecture, by Oxford University politics graduate Carina Bauer, CEO of IMEX Exhibitions, focuses on how to design participant journeys. IMEX is arguably the premier exhibition for event professionals around the world and takes place in both Frankfurt and Las Vegas each year.

But how does the organiser keep the show fresh and make sure that regular attendees are always seeing something new at the show? Inspiring visitors is paramount to the success of the shows. In this session attendees will get to understand how the organisers deal with changing expectations each year. Carina will also explore how to collaborate with new partners in a changing industry year on year and how to design ‘cutting-edge’ activities and design features into a large show on a budget. This is a must attend session for exhibitions and events designers and managers. It will inform their planning for regenerating visitor experiences each year.

After graduating in 1998, Carina began her career in retail and catering at the family owned chain – GoodBean Coffee. As managing director, Carina was in charge of the running of the business which grew to 13 stores in three years and was sold to a publicly listed company in December 2001. In 2002, Carina was appointed marketing and operations director for IMEX in Frankfurt. Following the expansion of the IMEX brand into America in 2009, Carina was appointed CEO of the IMEX Group to continue working with her father, global industry legend, Ray Bloom, as chairman of the group.

In this role, Carina is responsible for all aspects of the business. Throughout her career, Carina has been an active member of the meetings industry. She was chair of the marketing committee for MPI’s European Meetings & Events Conference, London (2008), has served on the Board of the MPI UK Chapter, the MPI International Multicultural Committee and on PCMA’s Global and Advocacy Taskforces. She is currently president elect for the SITE International Foundation.
