Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn Hett who died in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, has initiated a campaign to introduce “Martyn’s Law” to enhance security at all big public venues.
The petition to make metal detectors and bag checks compulsory at major public venues has received more than 13,600 signatures.
Eric Stuart, chairman of the UKCMA, commented: “We wholeheartedly support a fair and proportionate review of security at all major sporting and entertainment event venues.
“Any security regime must be a holistic one that improves safety and not one that simply transfers or even increases exposure to other dangers. We look forward to being engaged in the review being proposed.”
The mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has also backed the proposals, saying there is a “clear case for a thorough review of security measures at major sporting and entertainment venues… and I call on the government to initiate one.”
Security minister, Ben Wallace, said the government is “open to suggestions” on what other steps can be taken to ensure other terrorist attacks cannot be carried out.
Manchester Arena have upped their security provisions and technology since the 2017 attack.
