January 8, 2021 – With planners beginning to prepare and train on-site staff for new safety roles and guest management and responsibilities, the Event Leadership Institute (ELI) – the long-time leader in professional development programs for event & meeting professionals – has developed a new online micro training course in partnership with Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the largest meeting and event industry association worldwide.

Pandemic On-Site Protocol Training is designed to provide all front and back of the house on-site event staff – including volunteers, vendors, suppliers, and production crews – with the tactical knowledge necessary to personally stay safe, identify and suppress risks, and handle, mitigate and de-escalate non-compliance issues should they arise. The course fee is $75, with discounts available for ELI and MPI members, and groups.

“We designed this micro training course to help organizations train entire teams in the new on-site protocols necessary to ensure a safe environment for both staff and guests,” said Michael Granek, ELI President and COO. “Going beyond surface cleaning and sanitization protocols, this course provides actionable insights for risk mitigation, venue operations, and guest logistics—including situational awareness, handling, and de-escalation tactics.”

Pandemic On-Site Protocol training is a separate, targeted segment to the Pandemic Meeting & Event Design certificate course ELI and MPI launched in 2020. Pandemic Meeting & Event Design is a 6-week, in-depth online course for meeting and event planners rethinking their overall on-site event strategy and design by developing an elevated experience design strategy.

“We were thrilled to partner with the Event Leadership Institute on the Pandemic Meeting and Event Design certificate program for meeting professionals seeking the knowledge and skills necessary to host meetings as safely as possible during this and future crises. But that isn’t the full picture,” said Jessie States, CMP, CMM, director of the MPI Academy for Meeting Professionals International. “All on-site staff with safety roles need training—and that list goes well beyond the meeting professional who oversees operations. Whether it’s the on-site marketing team, hired contractors or city or member volunteers, this new training course provides on-site best practice protocols for everyone to adopt and follow.”

Registration is now open for the first three course dates: January 20, February 10, and March 3. Participants can complete the three-hour micro training in a single session or over seven days. The course also includes a scheduled one-hour Ask Me Anything (AMA) with the instructor, Kevin White, CSEP, and an online forum to ask questions. A digital badge and certificate of completion will be awarded upon successfully passing the exam. Additionally, this micro training course is available for 3.0 CMP credits.
