When you first get engaged, there is probably nothing more exciting than the prospect of wedding planning. You are excited to choose your colours, find your outfit, and let’s be honest, try some cake. But as you get closer to the big day and your tasks start to pile up– you may notice you are feeling a little more stressed than excited. That’s totally normal! You are not alone.

It is important to keep in mind that stress can have negative effects on our mind and body so we want to make sure we are taking steps to release this stress and staying healthy.

Here are some tips on how to release wedding planning stress:

  • Get Some Exercise:

It is no secret that physical activity releases endorphins, which help boost your mood and relieve stress.  If you find yourself bogged down by wedding stress – take time to move your body. Even a 20-minute walk or gentle yoga practice will help take your mind off your wedding and allow you to feel refreshed and ready to tackle your wedding planning with a clear head.

  • Take an Afternoon Off:

As you approach your wedding, you may feel like it’s the only thing going on in your life. The solution is simple– take an afternoon off! Grab a friend, or your fiance, and head to the beach, or a patio, or really anywhere and enjoy yourselves! The only rule: No. Wedding. Talk.

  • Check off Easy Tasks:

Unfortunately, even if you are stressed, your wedding still needs to be planned. What we suggest is to pick short, easy tasks and check them off. Focusing on one thing at a time will make the whole situation seem a little less overwhelming, and bonus, when you complete a task you’ll release some feel-good hormones as well!

  • Occupy Your Hands:

When you feel yourself starting to spiral with all things wedding – pick up a task that you can immerse yourself fully in, like painting, or doing a puzzle. By occupying your hands, you also occupy (read: distract) your brain, and this helps to relieve stress.

  • Talk to Someone:

While it may seem silly to say that wedding planning is causing you stress – it is totally valid and there may also be underlying fears associated with your big day. Talking to a therapist is a great way to work through those fears and set yourself up for success both on your wedding day and in life.
