5 Accessibility and Inclusion Events in 2019 & 2020

1) #culturecake

Culture Cake is a non-profit conference due to take place on September 28th in Porto, Portugal. The organisers hope that it’ll provide a place where folks can learn from the speakers they’ve selected and the community they’ll attract as to how they can improve their company cultures.

The aim, by the end of the conference, is for attendees to develop a company culture manifesto which they can then iterate on with their employees. As well as the talks we’ve just hinted at, there’ll be hands on workshops and sessions, making this a truly interactive event.

If you’re curious about the presentation sessions, you can expect speakers from such well-known organisations as Typeform among the line-up.

Date: September 29th, 2019.

Location: Porto, Portugal.

Tickets: Are available here for €50.

2) Accessibility Club Summit

The Accessibility Club Summit is another non-profit endeavour. This accessibility event has been set up to help empower people to get better use out of assistive technology and to discuss the state of web accessibility and how it can be improved.

The event will be jointly run by web accessibility groups from Nuremberg, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Turku and other regions around Europe. The event is a special side event of beyond tellerand, a conference run by Marc Thiele.

Date: November 16th & 17th, 2019.

Location: Berlin, Germany.

Tickets: Tickets are available via donation with suggested amounts provided on the ticket site.

3) Beyond Representation

Beyond Representation is an event dedicated to championing women of colour who are breaking new ground in media, arts, and business in Ireland.

The core question the event aims to address is what lies beyond simply being represented. In this case, what is the collective narrative for women of colour in the Irish cultural landscape?

This event aims to be a space where Irish women of colour can express themselves, collaborate, and celebrate.

Date: September 14th, 2019.

Location: Dublin, Ireland.

Tickets: Tickets are currently sold out, but you can join the waiting list to be notified if additional tickets become available here.

4) Tech Share Pro

Organised by AbilityNet and now in its third year, Tech Share Pro is the UK’s leading accessibility and inclusion event. The main takeaway that attendees can expect, regardless of their position, is a roadmap for their and their business’s future development will take shape in an accessible and inclusive way.

The competitive advantage of working this way is another benefit attendees can expect to enjoy: creating products and services that are inclusive in their design means they’ll serve the greatest amount of customers properly, which in turn undeniably leads to business health and can help mitigate risk. For full details, you can go here.

Date: November 20th & 21st, 2019.

Location: London, UK.

Tickets: Available here with tiered pricing for non-profit and for-profit organisations.

5) Culture Con 2020

In their own words, Culture Con “is on a mission to impact the workplace by connecting humans to inspire positive change around organisational culture.”

The format of the conference will involve keynotes, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, community give-back programmes, and an Innovation Hall.

If you’re not already sold on the concept of why a healthy company culture is important, I’d invite you to consider their thesis statement on the Culture Con site:

“The accelerated pace of the Digital and Information Revolutions have created unprecedented, hyper-competitive markets. To remain viable, companies of every shape and size are making complex, rapid changes to their personnel, processes and technology. Without an engaged and inspired workforce, these large-scale changes become extremely difficult to implement and sustain.”

Dates: August 6th & 7th, 2020.

Location: Wisconsin, USA.

Tickets: Available here.
