Easyfairs has announced the opening of a new venue serving Sweden’s economically dynamic Gothenburg metropolitan area. With a perfect location just a few minutes from the city centre, Åbymässan is Sweden’s latest and most innovative facility for exhibitions, trade fairs, congresses and conferences. It offers 10,500m2 of highly customisable floor space and technical support for event organisers, simple logistics for exhibitors, and convenience for all visitors.

The launch of the Åby facility is another important milestone in the strategic development of Easyfairs Nordic,” commented Easyfairs President and Founder Eric Everard. “We now manage high quality venues serving Sweden’s three largest cities, Stockholm, Malmö, and now Gothenburg. We look forward to hosting our own events at Åbymässan, as well as those of other organisers and entrepreneurs who would like to take advantage of the excellent facilities here.”

Easyfairs has taken a strategic decision to develop venues that can host multi-format events and provide a wide range of full-service offerings to ensure an exceptional experience for a broad range of consumer and professional communities. With Åbymässan, Easyfairs now has a network of 10 venues across Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden, hosting a very broad spectrum of events: trade shows and exhibitions, conferences, congresses, seminars, conventions and product shows, as well as concerts and sports tournaments.

About Åbymässan

Abymässan’s main exhibition hall offers excellent logistics flow, and the facility can be expanded with the use of 20,000m2 of outside space. In addition, there are 18 meeting rooms that can cater for 20 to 1,100 people. Including plenaries, Åbymässan can host conferences with up to 2,500 delegates, an exhibition and full catering.

Accessibility and sustainability were key factors in the planning and execution of the Åbymässan project. Located close to the major entrance points to the city of Gothenburg, and with ample parking space for up to 2,000 vehicles as well as public transport connections, it reduces pressure on the city centre, which is nevertheless just seven minutes away by car. The building is also highly energy-efficient.

Åbymässan is part of an entire out-of-town complex featuring a well-known race track, the Åby Arena. The doors opened on 8 January and there will be a formal opening ceremony in April. “We expect more than half a million visitors per year when the entire Åby Arena is operational with hotels, restaurants, the race track and a fitness centre. It is a major investment and a hugely exciting project,” said Joachim Warnberg, Managing Director of Easyfairs Nordic.

Easyfairs strengthens its strategic position in the Nordics

Easyfairs invests in venues primarily to be able to host its own events. As an events organiser and a venues manager with a process-driven approach it is able to “geo-clone” successful trade shows and exhibitions in new regions very rapidly. Thus, as well as welcoming third-party organisers to Åbymässan, Easyfairs is also looking forward to hosting Gothenburg editions of exhibitions and trade shows that have already enjoyed success elsewhere.

We arrange major events in several cities across the Nordic Region,” said Warnberg. “We are looking forward to hosting events as varied as our pop culture show, Comic Con and Sweden’s most important meeting place for the restaurant industry, Fastfood & Café at Åbymässan, as well as at our other Swedish venues, Kistamässan in Stockholm and Malmömassan in Malmö. Our presence in all three metropolitan areas is unique, and strengthens our strategic position in the Nordic region,” he adds.
