Overview
More than 900 orthopedic surgeons, physicians, and allied health professionals will attend the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Annual Meeting 2017, a four-day program that will feature nearly 100 presentations across nine learning tracks.
CHALLENGES
The continued growth of AOFAS’s membership and programing initiatives has required its meetings team to regularly recon-figure the logistics of the Annual Meeting, now entering its 48th year. “The 2017 meeting features both new content types and new meeting support,” said Elaine M. Leighton, CAE, AOFAS’s interim executive director. That includes paper sessions that will be held concurrently for the first time and allow attendees to explore specific interests in a smaller setting, and a guided tour of scientific posters led by past AOFAS presidents.
INITIATIVES
This year, AOFAS will prominently feature a new consumer-awareness campaign promoting the advantages of seeing a foot-and-ankle orthopedic surgeon, its Campaign 50 capital campaign — which aims to raise $3 million by 2019 — as well as its Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Outcomes Research Initiative, an effort to enhance patient care by collecting patient-reported data nationwide. And to improve the attendee experience, Leighton said, “a housing bureau has been set up, new self-service barcode registration will be offered, and the lead-retrieval system is integrated with the meeting mobile app, with lower costs and improved service for exhibitors.”
