What Eventbasers got up to in 2019

2019 has been another big year for Eventbase. While we were busy producing apps for some of the biggest events in the world, lots was happening behind the scenes.

Let’s take a look at what our team of Eventbasers got up to in 2019.

March 2019 marked Eventbase's 10 year anniversary.

Eventbase turns 10

March marked Eventbase’s 10 year anniversary. As Vancouver, Canada was preparing to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Eventbase was preparing to launch the Olympic Games first mobile app. Since the 2010 Olympic Games, it’s been a whirlwind of producing apps for some of the biggest events on earth.

“The past decade has been an exceptional ride,” Ben West, CPO and Co-founder. He described some of the moments he’s experienced, including walking the red carpet at Cannes, meeting Al Gore and witnessing Barack Obama speak at SXSW, seeing the Foo Fighters play at a small BBQ restaurant, and even holding a human brain at a medical conference. “Every day, there are massive events happening around the world where thousands of people are making memories like these,” continued West. “I feel so proud that our event app product is being used to connect people to these memorable experiences.”

Team events

Not only did the team celebrate Eventbase’s 10 year anniversary with a taco food truck, we had many other reasons to celebrate throughout the year. Teams spent quality time together ranging from a VR gaming afternoon to go karting.

Innovation is something Eventbasers constantly strive for in their work. This spring a team of Eventbasers hungry to bring their ideas to life, organized a hackathon. Eventbasers submitted their ideas and others jumped onto projects they were interested in. The teams spent an afternoon bringing their ideas to life and participated in a pitch competition to decide the winner.

In July, Eventbasers hit the beach for an afternoon of kayaking, standup paddle boarding, good ol’ fashioned egg relays and more. We ended the day with several sun salutations in a private sunset yoga class.

CEO and Co-founder, Jeff Sinclair, put himself in our customers' shoes when he became a volunteer Event Manager for the Ride to Defeat Diabetes, in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). In October, he brought together 36 Vancouver tech companies to spin for an hour and raise funds for a cause close to his heart. His youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and this year his family was the top fundraiser in the region. The whole team of Eventbasers went out to support this event and entered 3 teams of our own. Overall, the event raised $250,000 for diabetes research.

Of course the year is not complete without our annual holiday party. The 2019 theme was Masquerade and a slew of masks and a night of fun ensued.

Parental leave

One thing we’re especially proud of is introducing a new parental leave top up policy. Eventbase now offers additional paid time for new parents so they can spend quality time with their growing families. Already, we’ve seen 4 parents use this option to take time out of their careers and support their families.

Event experiences

One of the best things about working at Eventbase, is the opportunity to experience some of the biggest events in the world. Eventbasers travel throughout the year to be onsite supporting our customers during their events. In 2019 alone, Eventbasers travelled over 812,842 km for events with destinations ranging from Bangalore to Las Vegas. Often, being onsite is an opportunity for Eventbasers to partake in ‘bleisure’. After hours, our team was able to see the legendary Celine Dione, eat famed Texas barbecue and spend time with friends and family around the globe.

We also offer an opportunity for Eventbasers to experience an event as an attendee on our Ticket to Ride program. 2019 saw team members visit CES, Work Human by Globoforce, Elevate Toronto, TechCrunch Disrupt and more.

“I've been wanting to attend CES in-person since I heard of it when I was a student. It was mind boggling to see all the upcoming consumer tech as well as to chat with industry professionals. Thanks to Eventbase for offering this opportunity!” - Kevin Chen, Mobile Developer.

What’s next?

There is never a dull moment at Eventbase and we look forward to an exciting 2020 as we continue to deliver apps for some of the biggest events in the world. From all of us to you, a very happy new year!
