Say Hello to the New Salt Lake City International Airport

The United States’ most on-time airport is stepping into the future.

They say getting there is half the battle—but few airports are as reliable as Salt Lake City International. Served by all major U.S. airlines, and Delta’s western hub, SLC is already one of the United States’ easiest destinations to fly into. And with a $3.6 billion project currently underway for a brand-new, modern airport, arrivals and departures in Salt Lake are about to become even more streamlined. The new SLC is being built right next door to the current site, with a central terminal, parking garage and essential parts of the new concourses expected to be complete by 2020, and a final completion date set for 2024. Here are three reasons why your attendees will appreciate the new digs.

Stay on Schedule
When orchestrating a successful meeting, sticking to a schedule is a top priority. Since 2007, SLC has been the #1 on-time airport in the United States (even during the winter months), which means you and your attendees are less likely to encounter agenda-wrecking flight delays. The new airport’s dedicated meet-and-greet area will also make it easier to gather your group all in one place upon arrival.

Get from the Gate to Your Hotel with Ease
SLC is only seven miles from downtown’s convention district, so travel to and from the airport is much easier than in other major cities. Attendees can drive to most hotels within 10 minutes, drop off their bags and head out to dinner and drinks in one of the convention district’s eclectic bars and restaurants. Or they can skip the taxi, ride share or rental car line all together and hop on a light rail that will take them straight from the airport into downtown for just $2.50.

Eyes Toward the Future
When you fly into Salt Lake, the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Mountains that surround the city offer an inspiring view. Large picture windows throughout the new SLC will not only provide plenty of opportunities to marvel at the landscape, but this abundance of natural light is also part of an effort to make the airport as energy efficient as possible. With plans for all airline ground service equipment to be converted to electric by 2024, and the ultimate goal of LEED Gold Certification, SLC is on its way to becoming one of the most sustainable airports in the country.
